In an effort to be transparent and to inspire you, I want to start reporting my monthly earnings. But first, let me thank those of you who have made it possible. Thank you for signing up for hosting through Blue Host, clicking on my occasional Google advertisement, and other affiliate links. Thanks for trusting me with your websites and for growing with me, you are all so awesome!

November was a bit different from past months. I had surgery in early November and was on medical leave for much of the month. Thus, most of my income was in “passive”sectors and not through seeing private practice clients. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers during this time.

In September I posted my first ever earnings report. If you missed it or October, go to September 2012 Earning Report or October 2012 Earnings Report.

I am doing this so that I can be accountable and transparent. I may not get to it every month, but I am going to do my very best. If I skip a month, I try and cover the months I missed.

What I’m going to be reporting and what I’m not going to be reporting

Full-time Job: Since some of you are new and some of you have been around Practice of the Practice for a while, I’m going to give a quick summary of where I make income. My full-time job is at a community college as a counselor. I love the job and it gives me great opportunities. Also, since my wife stays home with our daughter it is an income we can count on, health insurance, a pension, and a really great environment! I’m not going to disclose my full-time wages, since it is not something that is part of my private practice.

Private Practice: I do 3-8 sessions a week in my private practice. I don’t take insurance, so it is private-pay. As a result, I don’t have many expenses in time or actual money. Included in my private practice money is time I spend doing supervision for LLPCs (Limited Licensed Professional Counselors), a 100 requirement in Michigan.

Passive Income: The term “passive” makes it sound like I don’t have to do work. What I mean is money that I make that is not in direct exchange for my time. I will outline what these are under each item.

How I made money in November 2012

Private Practice (4 sessions)  $603

Other counselors,  I have a counselor that works for my practice and I get a portion of what is brought in: $0

Building Websites for Counselors: $0

LLPC Supervision Conference Registration: $0

Paperwork Packet: $183.88

Consulting and LLPC Supervision: $280

E-book: $0

52-week e-newsletter to start a counseling private practice. I would have had more, but found out that Amazon had some issues with “verifying” my account, so it was frozen. Maybe next month this will increase, sorry folks if you tried to sign up. Please stick with me while I work out the kinks. I think we are all good now: $18.82

Affiliate Marketing:

BlueHost Referrals  $130

Amazon Affiliate Referrals    $.94

NameCheap Referrals: $0

Google Ads $2.54

November 2012 total: $1,219.18

(not bad for medical leave pay)

October 2012 total: $3,213.87

September 2012 was $1,361.60

With all of this, there is no magic formula. I’m sure you’re waiting for the pitch, “Buy now and you too can…” you’re not going to hear that from me. In fact, if I were looking at boosting my income, it would be through just taking on more clients, not blogging. In September, I made just over $200 for probably 20 hours of writing and website design. It’s only this month that the work seems to be paying off!

With that said, I really enjoy it! I love hearing from you, learning, guiding, and growing. Also, it’s helping us all get better at counseling private practice. So, if you like what you’re reading and you’re inspired, feel free to click on the affiliate links or ads. Thanks for joining me!

If you are looking for ideas or want to connect, I’d love to chat with you!
