Gifts for Referrals

Q&A was part of Next Level Practice, the most supportive community for therapists starting a private practice. In this video, Joe answers the question based on gifts for referrals.

Question

Justin: I’d also love it if you could talk once again about a Father’s Day thing for referrals. You mentioned the client who gave water bottles with Superman on them. I’m just wondering, if I do something like that, would I have to have my logo and website on it, or is it purely a gift without my stuff?

Answer

Joe: Yeah, so I interviewed a lady who talked about thanking other people. I wouldn’t put your logo on that. I would say if you’re going to do some sort of Father’s Day gift to fathers that are referral sources, or somehow connected to you, I would have it be something that’s just cool. And then, maybe you write them a note, ‘Hey, I really appreciate you being a referral source. Hope you have a great Father’s Day! Here’s a kick off to summer thing.’ Often, if you buy a group of twelve on Amazon, you can get a much better deal on some really cool water bottles, or things like that. So, for example, there’s these glass water bottles, that are super cool, that look like something out of a science lab. I got those for slow down school last year I think they were like a $1-$2 each.
