How can you outline your summertime and what can you expect from the Diverse Clinicians series?

In this podcast episode, Joe Sanok speaks about outlining your summer and the upcoming Diverse Clinicians Series that will run until 21 June.

An image of the Practice of the Practice podcast sponsor, BiOptimizers, is captured. BiOptimizers is a magnesium supplement for reducing stress and improving sleep.

Did you know that there is ONE PHASE OF SLEEP that almost everyone fails to get enough of? This one phase of sleep is responsible for most of your body’s daily rejuvenation, repair, controlling hunger, weight loss hormones, and boosting energy. I’m talking about “deep sleep”…

If you don’t get enough deep sleep, you’ll probably always struggle with cravings, slow metabolism, premature aging or even worse conditions.

A BIG reason why most people don’t get enough “deep sleep” is because of magnesium deficiency which affects over 80% of the population. Magnesium increases GABA, which encourages relaxation on a cellular level, which is critical for sleep.

It’s important to understand that most magnesium products out there are either synthetic or, they only have 1-2 forms of magnesium, when the reality is that your body needs ALL 7 FORMS of this essential sleep mineral.

That’s why I recommend a product my friends over at BiOptimizers created, called Magnesium Breakthrough. Taking this magnesium before bed helps you relax and wake up refreshed and energized.

I also love that BiOptimizers offers FREE SHIPPING on select orders, as well a 365-day money-back guarantee on all their products. Plus, they have a customer satisfaction rating of 99.3%. You can get 10% off Magnesium Breakthrough — the best aid I know of for boosting deep sleep — at magbreakthrough.com/practice. Be sure to use practice10 for 10% off.

A change of pace and envisioning the summer you want

Summertime is a glorious time both in personal life and in business.

Many practice owners try to find a way to manage their time so that they can spend quality moments with their family and loved ones while still running a successful business.

The same way we want our weekends to be in preparation, not reaction, to the week before, we also want to use different seasons to have different pacing. (Joe Sanok)

Each season offers you a chance to observe the pace at which you are working and living. Is it still working for you? Do you want to make adjustments?

  • As you head into June, what are some things that you can commit to doing for yourself this summer? Set some time aside to intentionally think through what you want your summer to look like.

At the end of the summer you said, “That was a great summer, it was great for me personally, it was great for the connection with my friends and family and business”, what would that look like? (Joe Sanok)

What would your ideal week, month, and summer as a whole look like?

Diverse Clinicians Series

Part of my posture towards this coming series is I want to make sure that people can just talk about the good work that they’re doing. It could be in regards to race, it could be in regards to social justice, or it could just be that they’re an expert in a particular area and we’re giving a platform to those people. (Joe Sanok)

The next new Practice of the Practice series is titled Diverse Clinicians, and it will center discussions with clinicians around the good work that they are doing.

It’s going to be a summer that is inspiring in very much a heart-centered way… to go deeper into areas that maybe we haven’t dug into quite as much. (Joe Sanok)

Podcast Transcription

[JOE SANOK] This is the Practice of the Practice podcast with Joe Sanok, session number 729. I’m Joe Sanok, your host, and welcome to the Practice of the Practice podcast. I hope you are doing awesome today. This sound may sound a little bit different. I was supposed to kick off the coming series with LaToya Smith, one of our practitioners, and we had the most technology issues. Her sound wasn’t working in Zencaster, we couldn’t get Zoom to work, it’s just those things happen and you have to roll with it. So I’m actually, I bought a new vacation rental that I’ve been renovating and so I’m out there and I’m actually sitting in the kitchen and I have my AirPods and sometimes you just got to get things going rather than feel like you have to do it perfect. So we’ve got an amazing show for you today to talk through what we’re doing this summer, what you can expect this summer and where we’re headed into the fall. But before we talk about the series that are coming up want to just talk a little bit about how to frame out your summertime, because a lot of times people have different perspectives on summer where their caseload may slow down, maybe they want to be around their kids a little more. So in general, maybe they decide I’m going to, I’m going to slow things down a little bit. I’m going to just allow some time to breathe, some time to think, some time to just really do things differently. That is valid. That is awesome. That’s, what’s Slow Down School or other things that we do is all about, to allow our brains to recoup and rejuvenate. In the same way that we want our weekends to be in preparation, not reaction to the week before we also want these different seasons to maybe have different pacing. When September rolls around, a lot of people are motivated and they’re ready to try new things when January 1st rolls around, we oftentimes are thinking about goals and as we enter into summer, it’s a time to reflect on, do we like the pace that we’re going? Do we want to sustain this long term? Is this what we want, or do we want to change some things up a little bit? So I want to encourage you as you think about entering into June, what are some things that you can really commit to doing for your yourself this summer? Not for your kids, not for your family, not for your business, but what are one or two really small things that you can commit to? For me, for example, every Wednesday night, I’ve been doing improv with an improv troop for a number of years. To me, that’s just like a non-negotiable. I want to make sure I do that every single week. I also want to make sure I spend time on the water. Michigan’s so cold most of the year. I want to be paddleboarding. I want to be swimming when the water’s warm enough. I want to make sure that I have that time at the beach with my friends, with my family, with my girls. So having some of those adventures this summer is really important to me. So what are those things for you? For other people if business slows down a little bit summer can be a time of sprinting. It can be a time of visioning, creating, building out content, thinking through things that are just different. It may be a time of networking or meeting other people, or even looking at how you can level up into growing an audience to be able to think through expanding beyond what you’re currently doing. So if you’re a solo practitioner, maybe you’re looking at how do you start a group practice? Maybe if you’re a group practitioner you’re thinking, well, how do I level up into doing e-courses or public speaking or writing, so to find those ways that you can plan things out when things potentially are a little bit slower in the summertime. So thinking through intentionally what you want your summer to look like can be such a good exercise to do. I would love for you to just take a couple minutes and maybe pause this and just think about if at the end of the summer you said that was a great summer; it was great for me personally, it was great for the connections with my friends and family. It was great for my business. What would that look like? What would your average week look like? Would you wake up early? Would you sleep in a couple days? Would you feel like you really got some things done or like, would you feel like you just sat around a lot? So take some time to pause this podcast right now. Think through what would your ideal week, month, and summer look like? I hope you paused it and really thought through that because if we don’t think about what we want to get out of life, what we want to get out of summer, life just happens to us. Then it goes through the summer, like each day is going to come and go as it goes. So think through what you really get out of summer. [BiOptimizers] Did you know that there is one phase of sleep that almost everyone fails to get enough of? This one phase of sleep is responsible for most of your body’s daily rejuvenation, repair, controlling hunger, weight loss, and boosting energy. I’m talking about deep sleep. If you don’t get enough deep sleep, you’ll probably always struggle with cravings, slow metabolism, premature aging, and even worse conditions. It’s been two years since Black Lives Matter and a lot of the protests and the conversation expanded in a lot of ways that are positive. I wanted to revisit some of those conversations, but to also go beyond just talking about race and social issues and to give a spotlight to diverse clinicians. It’s really interesting a couple years ago when I did the black leaders matter series, I received actually a lot of hate on social media from people saying who are you as a white guy to be doing this series and how dare you? Just a lot of people that to me came across as being, I don’t know, newer to maybe some social justice issues and to just see how the people that have been in the movement, have been in having discussions around diversity and inclusion and culture and all the issues that are so important that they were recognizing that when someone has a platform just giving platform and giving voice and being curious and joining in the discussion is one of the things that people can do to contribute. So I want to revisit that. In June we’re doing a number of discussions and as I talk to people, I mean we’re two years into this pandemic. We’re, there’s so many problems. I mean, at the time of this recording, there’s been a couple shootings. Who knows what will happen in the future by the time this episode drops. People are exhausted and with the people that I talked to in this series that’s coming up in the coming weeks, I wanted, I said to them before I started rolling, every single one of them that for people of color, for people that are from minority groups, from a variety of different backgrounds to always talk about race, my perception is it can get exhausting and almost all of them said, yes, yes. In some ways we get sick of it, but it’s also needed. So part of my posture towards this coming series is, and I want to make sure that people can just talk about the good work they’re doing. It could be in regards to race, it could be in regards to social justice, or it could just be that they’re an expert in a particular area and we’re giving a platform to those people. So I really try to have pre-conversations with people to make sure that I understood what they wanted out of the interview. Did they want to talk more just about their work? Did they want to dive into discussions on race? So you’ll see that sometimes we don’t dive super deep into social issues. Sometimes we talk mostly clinical. So it’s going to be a really interesting series and we’d love to hear what you think. Would be just a really great way to take action from it. We’re continuing to explore a lot of different ways to take action. So that’s going to be going until the 21st of June of 2022, and then on the 22nd we’re going to be doing an episode that kicks off the series, how I got through it. At the point of this recording, I have about 15 interviews of people that have been through really tough things, like kids being, we’re going to do trigger warnings before every single episode, but going through really tough things like having a daughter gets sexually assaulted, the death of a sibling, infidelity, 11 years of abuse in a marriage, death of a child, all sorts of really tough things that I personally just want to learn from. In episode 736 Latoya Smith really digs in with me as to why is that it matters to learn how people got through it and what my story is over the last year, year and a half. So I’m really, really excited about the series of diverse clinicians coming up, the series of how I got through it. Then when we’re done with how I got through it starting in August, we just have a number of really amazing interviews. So it’s going to be a summer that I think is inspiring in a very much a heart-centered way. Maybe not that means it’s less business, but just to go deeper in areas that maybe we haven’t dug into quite as much. I mean, that’s the thing about a podcast, you can dig in super deep in a lot of different ways. So stay tuned, we’re going to be doing some awesome things. We could not do series like this or other things like this without our awesome sponsors. We have a great new sponsor, BiOptimizers, is a great supplement company. We partnered with them. I didn’t realize that 80% of the population is deficient in magnesium. That’s crazy, these studies that are coming out and that’s one of the most important things for getting good quality sleep and most people aren’t getting good deep sleep. So what’s great about BiOptimizers is they have a 365-day money-back guarantee, plus their customer satisfaction that’s 99.3%, which is really impressive. You can get 10% off your first order of Magnesium Breakthrough to get that deeper sleep over at magbreakthrough.com/practice. Use [PRACTICE10] to get 10% off. Thank you so much for letting me into your ears and into your brain. Welcome to the summer and the summer series. Will talk to you soon. Bye.
