Marisa Peer’s Story

Growing up, Marisa’s parents encouraged her to be a nanny as they felt she would never make it. Her father persuaded her to be a teacher and she went to college, but they asked her to leave. She didn’t mind but her father was devastated when she left. This ended up being one of the best things that ever happened to her. At this point, Marisa didn’t really know what to do and got a job as an aerobics instructor which she loved. Within a year she was working in LA for Jane Fonda.

In This Podcast

In this podcast episode, Joe Sanok speaks with Marisa Peer about going through rejection, failures, overcoming them and how she helps people to believe they are enough.

We believe that rejection scars us, but you should see it as the best thing that has ever happened to you.

We’re all taught that rejection scars us forever and we can’t recover, and it is simply not true.

Being Enough

You’re supposed to be good at one thing and if you find the one thing you love and become amazing at it, it will change your life.

Having worked with very successful people in her field, Marisa began to notice this trend of ‘not enoughness’. They always need more of everything. No baby is born thinking ‘I am not enough’, but by the time we’re 6 we can be so invested in thinking that ‘I am not as good as other kids’.

Believing in Yourself

It’s my life today, but it’s not my life.

You have to start believing in yourself and have other people believe in you.

When working with young people now, Marisa tells them to think of their life as a clock: your childhood is the first 10 minutes, you’ve got a whole 50 minutes left to have an amazing life.

Three Things To Address

Belief without talent will take you further than talent without belief. But if you have both, you are unstoppable.

  • I am not enough
  • What I want is not available
  • I’m so different I can’t connect

Marisa believes that great therapy is reactivating, manifesting and regenerating what you were born with – which is that you’re enough.
